Respite Center

What is the Good Samaritan Respite Center?

Good Samaritan Respite Center is designed to meet an essential component of the continuum of care services needed by the homeless and those at risk for homelessness.  It is a health recovery residence providing a safe, supportive environment for individuals recovering from illness, injury or surgery who do not have a suitable home or caregiver.  The Center is designed to provide the compassionate care and caring that most people receive from a capable caregiver in a stable home.  The staff will monitor medications, assist with personal hygiene and provide a homelike setting which helps recuperation.   The service provided by the Respite Center will assist in decreasing extended hospital stays for the homeless due solely to their homelessness and provide successful convalescence thereby avoiding emergency room visits and repeat hospital admissions.   The Respite Center’s staff will also help connect individuals with community resources which support general wellness and provide linkage to support systems that will help to avoid homelessness after discharge from the Center.

The Center will provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for patients who need less than 21 days for recuperative care that can be provided in a home setting.  Those requiring the care can be accepted Monday through Friday through referrals from participating hospitals.
